Genotypic characterisation and cluster analysis of Campylobacter jejuni isolates from domestic pets, human clinical cases and retail food

Els Acke, Cyril Carroll, Aoife O'Leary, Kevina McGill, Lorraine Kelly, Amanda Lawlor, Robert H Madden, Lynn Moran, Pam Scates, Eleanor McNamara, John E Moore, Boyd R Jones, Seamus Fanning, Paul Whyte Irish Veterinary Journal 2011, 64:6 (31 March 2011)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed |  Editor’s summary

Genetic similarities of Campylobacter jejuni isolates from pets compared to human cases are low, suggesting that pets are unlikely to be a reservoir for human campylobacteriosis. Genetically indistinguishable isolates are present however and so pets could still circulate the bacteria and contribute to clinical infection.

Thomas Patten, Barbara Good, James P Hanrahan, Grace Mulcahy, Theo de Waal Irish Veterinary Journal 2011, 64:4 (31 March 2011)

Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed | Cited on BioMed Central |  Editor’s summary

Anthelmintics are important in controlling the effects of gastrointestinal parasitism in sheep but inconsistencies in administering these have been observed, risking anthelmintic resistance. Greater awareness on practices that preserve anthelmintic efficacy needs to be raised.
